Orchids – One Of A Kind
Orchids are some of the most beautiful and ornate flowers on the plant. The wide variety of colours and the various sizes make them quite a common flower too. What many people do not realise is that orchids and the Orchidaceae family is the most diverse and widespread of all flowing plants. It is known that there are at least 27,800 different varieties of flower that form part of the species and there may be more yet undiscovered orchids. This is an astonishing number and is almost as high as the number of boney fish on the planet and is far higher than the number of bird varieties. The number is so high that the Orchidaceae accounts for almost 10% of the world’s seed plants; it really is quite an impressive plant just on its stats alone.
Orchids have been used for a variety of purposes for thousands of years. Orchids have been used in medicine and the dendrobium species has been known to help fight cancer, strengthen the immune system and improve eyesight. The Turks turned orchids into a beverage not unlike some of the health drinks of today. And then there is vanilla, yes vanilla is a member of the orchid family.
There is a certain magic or even mystery about orchids, they have featured in many stories and movies and flowers and plants that have healing flowers or as in the James Bond classic “Moonraker” the ability to destroy the world. This magic, this power may be true but essentially people love orchids to look at. The tranquillity of single orchid bloom on a tall stem has a certain charm and beauty all of its own. That certain mystery, almost sadness of the solitary and perfect bloom of the orchid speaks to anyone who glances at the flower.
The same mystery and magic unfolds with a silk or artificial orchid, an artificial flower so real that one has all the same associations as with the real flower. An artificial Orchid looks spectacular and placed in an area with the appropriate lighting can bring a sense of beauty and serenity to any space.
Spot lit in darkened room a single orchid beckons a person, calls them and whispers their name and hauntingly entices them to sit, stare and dream. Such is the power of an orchid whether it is a real or artificial flower. The artificial orchid adds to the mystery because it does not require the daylight or the moisture to “grow” where it should grow and thus can appear where it should not and yet feel perfectly at home.
A single artificial orchid plant can be a spectacular addition to any room or even work space bringing a certain magic to any room. Almost maintenance free an artificial orchid will almost speak and say “thank you” to you such is their power and you and others will thank them back and not even know you are now under its spell.
